I was quite impressed to hear that a grass-roots group here in Providence, RI have established "Immigrant Defense Zones" to protect people from harassment by ICE. The zones are in a collection of small, community businesses in and around the city.
"PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Some local business owners announced on Friday they are pledging to protect immigrant community members with so-called “immigrant defense zones.” On Friday morning, business owners, community members and the Rhode Island Deportation Defense Coalition held a press conference announcing the initiative. The coalition is an association of 33 community organizations. Hao said since February, they’ve been “organizing and mobilizing hundreds of people to say no to ICE terror.”
The story was reported on our local WPRI station during the afternoon news on Friday.
One of the establishments, "Crown Fried Chicken" is a favorite of ours for their incredible fried chicken; we will certainly continue to patronize them, even more so!
