Microsoft has pushed a function out to the Windows 11 users called "Recall". Recall takes continual screenshots of your system while you are working "...just in case you forget where you left off!". These screenshots can include credit card and other personal information. For Windows users, to find out which release of Windows you have, go into Start > Settings > System > About
Recall has been included in this version of Windows:
Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 24H2 👈 This release
Installed on ‎ 12/‎4/‎2024
OS build 26100.3775
To check to see if Recall has been activated on your PC, open the Start window.
In the Search bar, type CMD <Enter>.
Select "Run as administrator", and when prompted, select "Yes"
There are two commands; one to check the status to see if it is enabled, and if so, one to disable it:
Check Status: Dism /Online /Get-Featureinfo /Featurename:Recall
On my system, it is disabled. If you find this is ENABLED on your PC, issue the following command:
Disable: Dism /Online /Disable-Feature /Featurename:Recall
And then re-run the check status command to ensure it has been disabled.
Some folks will notice the "CoPilot" Icon on the search bar; some hooks are just slow to unhook...
But at least, Windows will not be screen-scraping your personal information.
The information on Recall came from this YouTube video:
Given that I've been firmly ensconced in the Windows OS since Win 3.1 (and that wonderful box of 13 installation diskettes!), any hint or tip helps.
