Anti-AI: AI Influencers

I don't know how I am supposed to feel about this news tidbit from Pajiba; that my one pet peeve "gig" job is actually under threat by AI generated slop. That's right; AI is coming after the Social Media Influencer, taking that dubious, slop career choice of a slacker generation with a selfie phone, and turning in a triple slop hot mess with a focus to dupe unsuspecting people into believing in it.

The worse side of this are the AI content creators using AI to push quack medical advice from seemingly legitimate (faked) "medical professionals", as outlined by the New York Times (gift link).

I can more or less see through the AI generated crap that is posted on YouTube; I can recognize the intonation, the flow, the neon pop-up closed captioning of what you hear over the speakers. Generally, if tuning into one of these videos gets my hackles up, I know it's a fraud.  But it is this the side of the AI crap generation that really bothers me; pushing the quackery - the snake oil.

What is worse is that when you go to check the validity of those postings, they get  confirmed by yet MORE AI generated postings. Part of you is thinking "Well, LOOK at how many different videos there are recommending this treatment! It MUST be a thing!". I can see how people get duped. Especially in our current crisis regarding the lack of trust in health guidance.

For what it is worth, the NYT piece shows you how the same AI generated image is remastered to look just slightly different.

There is no combating this; as the saying goes, it would be like trying to put the shit back in the cow.  I think the best path forward is to verify, especially when it comes to something you are likely to ingest in your body; don't trust the Internet.  Talk to your healthcare professional first!

Don't be this guy;

He's the "LOOKSMAXXER" who died after injecting liquid gold into his veins and then going on a rampage and drowning.  He was convinced that injecting liquid gold would give him superpowers. I know, I know, I know, the topic is AI Influencers, the point here is - don't be stupid and follow something off the Internet that is, in reality just totally absurd.

Even if it the character on the screen looks legitimate.

Question everything, and as the saying goes, if it SOUNDS to good to be true, it probably is.

Onward,

Rade
