Your Daily Meme - Earth Day Edition
Thank you, Infidel, for that one!
From one of my first, childhood books, "The Bumper Book" - given to my by my big sister in 1969. I still have that book.
Thanks for including Matthew Browne. It is natural that people sometimes feel sentimental about inanimate objects, especially large ones, but it's self-aware life that is really extraordinary and has the ability to feel. Without it, the Earth would be just another large rock, of which the universe already has countless trillions.
We are planting "so many trees", by the way. Total global forest cover has increased substantially over the last couple of decades, because deforestation in Africa and South America is being more than offset by tree-planting programs elsewhere, mainly India and China (which shows that large populations don't need to be an environmental negative). Even the US has more forest cover than it did a century ago.
Rade, I would pay to watch that rocket go up, maybe with a few select congressmen and women in it too. I can picture it running out of fuel and plummeting back to earth. . . . yeah, I can see it.

In the frying pan! Very true, alas.
Oh, let's send select people to Mars first. I have a list.
I am astoundingly surprised that none of the Tech bro Billionaires have not talked SCROTUS into taking a rocket ride.
