An October Day in P-Town

The husband had the day off, so we decided to venture out to Cape Cod for the day and see what was going on in Provincetown.  We have been going out there multiple times a year since moving into the region 20+ years ago, and I will say that sadly, the past several years, we had found the town had become a little too gentrified... and way over-crowded.

Even more impressed by the "We support and defend our immigrant population!" signs in every storefront.

This trip... was much different.  We had no agenda, just to go and stroll; and stroll we did!

The crowds were bustling, but light. Coming off MacMillian Pier (parking), we turned right began... shopping?  Shopping!  Normally, we stop at Lands End Ace Hardware (always find fun stuff in there!) and start back into town center, but this time, we continued.  Wow!  Stumbled onto Adams Nest, just a little store front that packed a heck of a lot in LGBTQ+, along with political merch poignant to our world.  Across the street was a little art gallery, Rainbow Art, run by the artist Myra (and her partner Kate).  We spent some time talking with Myra; her spirit is incredible and her works are... electric!  We rounded out our shopping at Luxories where we found incredible prints, bud vases and a tapestry to add to our home.  Mark (proprietor) offered the provenance of everything we looked at; it was just fabulous!

We rounded out our stroll with the stop at Shop Therapy, and picked up the requisite bag of taffy from Cabot's (Beach Plum, Cinnamon and Sea Salt Caramel!) and assorted nosh for the ride home.

P-town felt "back"; energetic. Alive.  It was delightful to be out there!  We felt... content... when the day was done.

Of course, the drive home... on Rt. 6... at 30mph (it's a 45mph zone)... from Truro to Wellfleet...

One truck... driven by a very... VERY old couple (we finally got to pass them)... way up front.
As I like to say; "Blessed are the elderly, for the road before them is always clear".

P-Town!  We will certainly see you again!  Loved being out there for the day!

Our mistake the past several years was not to go "off season"; we would try and shoe-horn in a visit in peak Summer. Early October more or less marks the end of the tourists, but almost everything was open!

I fantasize about Ptown while forgetting about that drive. That part sure could suck. My first time in Ptown was Halloween 1981! I met Miss Ohio. Without the heels, she was 6'4". She had been a linebacker in high school... in Ohio!

Looks similar to our beach towns overrun with tourists.
