The Cat Chronicles - January 11 2026.

I have a lot of folks and friends who often ask how the cats are doing.  One dear friend has a allergy to cat dander and just lives vicariously through the notes.  Much like the periodical "Morning Coffee Round-up" posts, I am going to begin a new blog thread, "The Cat Chronicles" with periodic updates about our... foursome.

Top to bottom; Lilo (f), Etta (f) and Goldie (m)

Stunt Double (m)

We have two established resident felines; Lilo and Etta.  Females, a "bonded pair", adopted from a rescue shelter back in 2020, going on 6 years old.  As I posted the later part of last year, we have recently been adopted by two strays; Goldie - vet estimates he's around 4 (abandoned neighborhood cat) and Stunt Double (100% feral, looks like Etta only... bigger) who the vet thinks is around 10.  Both have gone through a community "Trap & Release" program for neutering, shots, exams, etc.  Both are quite healthy. My idea was to curtail the litters in the neighborhood and ensure protections against various disease and virus (rabies; we have raccoons and skunks living on our property).

Goldie has moved in!  Does not want to be outdoors.  He's just a giant, affectionate  lunk of a cat who has taken up full-time residence in our kitchen.  Though he's outwardly affectionate and VERY chatty, he's feisty; likes the verbal attention and being present, but does not like to be pet - prone to biting.  He follows me around the 1st floor; taking up station nearby.  He and Etta get along, but does not get along with Lilo; more like Lilo does not like him  Right now, I have this trio (Lilo, Etta and Goldie) in my office as I am drafting this post.

Stunt Double (SD) holds station on the welcome mat outside out side entrance when not in his heated bed-box.  (Weather permitting) I leave the door open and he comes into the breezeway for occasional treats, but this morning, actually came up the stairs and into the kitchen!  A first!  ...until Goldie saw him, then WWIII erupted as Goldie chased SD back outside. Wow... fangs, hissing and LOUD snarling!  Followed by Goldie stationing himself at the kitchen door looking to the breezeway and offering a low, guttural growl for the next hour.

We'll get there.  Those two shared meals outdoors without carnage.  I think it is just a matter of reintroduction.  Thank you, Mitchell, for inspiring me to write about our foursome!

So that is today's (inaugural) Cat Chronicle!

So nice to meet the gang. Poor SD! I hope Goldie becomes more welcoming.

It's.. a learning curve. I feel like we've gone from having two charming cats to... much more. Goldie is a chow cat. Like watching a front-end loader go to work. Our females are very... fussy. Dainty. So getting into the "Feed him away from the others so they have a shot at eating..."

Thank you. Yes, SD just... so close. It warms my heart, though, when every morning, he's waiting for his breakfast from inside his heated bed-box.

I love reading about people's cats! And seeing photos! Four cats -- quite a handful. That's a lot of litterbox duty.

Four words, Debra: Auto. Matic. Litter. Box. Lovely inventions! Added a second one when Goldie became an indoor cat. He's, shall we say, "prolific".

Today is housecleaning day. Discovered Goldie... let's just say, he thinks outside the box. Means well, aim is way off.
