One regional organization that I proudly support is "Save The Bay" here in Southern New England. We have done a lot of work over the years with shoreline cleanup and erosion mitigation measures (planting sea grasses). The work has been incredible and quite rewarding, and I got to see some parts of coastal Rhode Island that I perhaps would never have thought to explore!
Each year, Save The Bay works with the Ocean Conservancy for the International Coastal Cleanup day; this year, it will be on October 19. Yes! This is a global initiative!
"Every year during Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup™,
hundreds of thousands of volunteers comb lakes, rivers and beaches
around the world for trash. Find a cleanup leader near you and join the
movement."
If this is something you would be interested in, and would like to spend a day at the ocean (or lake or river), the Ocean Conservancy has a map of the global coordinators; perhaps there is one near you! All that they ask for is your time.
