Lilo.

Our Lilo passed away overnight.

She had suffered an apparent stroke the night before.  I went to see her yesterday, and she just wanted to be held - nestling in my arms in between feedings.
Weak, but not in pain.

My plan was to bring her home today. I was thinking through setting up a ward to care for her.

I woke this morning with a foreboding that it was over.
Message on the answering service from our Vet was blinking when
I came into the office; to tell us that she had passed.

Just looking at your picture made me tear up. My condolences on the passing Lilo, a great companion no doubt.

Certainly a shared experience for those of us who love our furry friends. The picture recalls cradling my Sophie when the IV was administered and 10 seconds later her precious head dropped and she was no longer in pain. No ashes, no pawprint, just unforgettable memories to last a lifetime. Please enjoy yours.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words and thoughts. We spent the morning saying good bye to Lilo and thanked the staff at the Veterinarian hospital for everything they did to try and help her.

It was raining as we went to see her for the final time. I am not a religious person, but in my heritage; Serbian Orthodox, if it rains during a funeral, that is the sign that the spirit of the departed did enter into heaven. I have no doubt that, in any spiritual context, all animals get in, it's just one of those familial touchstones that I think about at times like today. And I feel somehow at peace.

Love you, Lilo. The house does feel... emptier.
