The pandemic taught me that I really do appreciate grocery shopping when the stores first open in the morning. There are no crowds. Items that I need for daily or weekly shopping have been restocked (I’ve returned to “Just In Time” shopping – buying what I need for the next one or two meals, not shopping for the entire week ahead). A corollary benefit to shopping early, as I have discovered… the MAGA cultists are generally not early birds. I can get my shopping done without seeing nary a MAGA hat or tee-shirt, or bumper sticker in the parking lot.
I chose to ignore the MAGA in the room. And you know… it felt great. No acknowledgment that they were present. No eye contact. No engagement. No civil platitudes like “Morning!”, etc. Just nothing. I did not race off in a panic, I just went about my business. My hackles were not enraged.
It felt… calming.
I consider this more a coping mechanism than a bubble; it allows me to be out in that segment of the public. I also realize and appreciate that not everyone's environment offers this degree of flexibility. I have friends in the Deep South where Trump and MAGA/MAGA-adjacent branding are plastered on every open space and it is difficult to not be impinged upon.
Food for thought as we all navigate these times.

It is rare to run into an outward MAGA like you describe here, thank goodness. Oh, we know they are here, because one of our neighbors is MAGA. He's a very unhappy person - even with his Dear Leader in charge. But this really is a very diverse city with every ethnicity known to mankind.
Rade, good for you and I could do that but still, in the back of my mind, I'd want to slap that face so hard the red hat would be somewhere in the produce section. Up here in the PNW, I've never seen a red hat in public, but drive by a seedy house with dirty tattered tRUMP flags still up since 2015. He really created some brainwashed diehards. Pathetic!
Unfortunately, Rhode Island is not as dark blue these days. A LOT of MAGA finery flying around town. And yes, even WITH SCROTUS in charge, these people just seem... miserable. Completely miserable. Not my problem to solve.
Sunglasses also help...
Good strategy.
I live in Red country Texas. Maga roams free here. In fact you can't swing a dead Magat without hitting another Magat. It's really bad when they think they are better than anyone else and expect to be waited on first before a black or brown individual or even a woman like me who happens to be white like Magat overly privileged asses. I was at a Deli counter in HEB waiting my turn to be taken care of with 4 other ladies who were there before me when a Magat in his big red Maga hat came up and demanded the Deli woman take his order right then and there. All of us ladies ganged up on his dumb ass and told him in no uncertain terms that he will wait his turn or leave. One woman told him to go ask Epstein's Bitch to get his order. It was funny cause he left all scared. He went to stand in the bakery section so we would stop talking at him. It made my day that we, 2 Black, an Asian, a Hispanic, and a white woman stuck together and put him in his place. Which to us was lower than a roach.
LOVE THIS!!!! You're my hero!
I love it and adore you for doing it. I do the same thing if I know for sure they're a Maga because of attire advertising the fact. They will soon learn that they are outcasts. I don't think anybody should be treated as an outcast, I mean look what the LGBT has been through in history, that being said I don't see anything wrong with treating MAGAS like that, because they're just downright evil, and destroying this country. So there's a big difference. And when people get ignored that drives them insane.
My trigger warning is a baseball hat. Had to run to a local supermarket a short while ago, and saw an old guy walking towards me with a camouflage BB hat on that had four letters ending in "A" above the bill. I was thinking "Oh, goodie fuck me..." as he got closer, I was able to read the initials; "PETA". I smiled and saluted him.
I'm glad worked out well for you.
