ABC reported last evening that an American Airlines jet had an on-board fire when someones personal electronic device (Phone? Tablet? Computer? Dildo?) caught fire and they diverted to National Airport to have it addressed. Yes, there ARE rules about storage of personal technology on board planes. But to add.. a subtle layer... to this story, as an aside, ABC Whirled News Tonight curated a video taken during the incident. It was by a young adult… seated in the plane… posting to a TikTok video. As I am watching it unfold, I am thinking "...this young “functional” (air quotes) adult… had made a decision that it was important to put stickers on her forehead before going out in public?"
As this segment conclude, my only thought was; "She is why we have warning labels on everything…”. Hey! But you be you! And then this morning I browsed... Wonkette!
Doktor Zoom (DZ) of Wonkette had a great posting this morning about the Trump administration now gunning for the Consumer Product Safety Commission. In “Will Trump's Anti-Fun Goons Kill The Best Government Social Media Account Ever? “, DZ went on to post examples of the humor that the CPSC uses to get various points across:
and went further to to include a hint at the Administrations expect first rules of order once they take over the commission;
“As part of applying only the very best science, the CPSC announced it’s cancelled six proposed rules. Among them are a proposal to improve the safety of table saw blades, and another to reduce the risk of rollovers of “recreational off-highway vehicles” (ROVs) “
For as much as I would hate to see agencies gutted, especially by the supreme morons in the current administration, personally, I would love to see the rules set forward by the CPSC be curtailed... revisited... in some instances, removed; if anything, to all to allow the human gene pool to filter out those who just… don’t have a clue. My feeling is, I cannot stop some jackass if he wants to ignore all warning labels and shove a bottle rocket up his ass and light it on fire, or some moron wants to take a “Tide Pod” challenge, or lick restroom door handles (yes, that was a thing), or sit in the emergency row of a jet and feel compelled try and open the hatch mid flight or carry some altitude-sensitive, toxic battery pack on board a jet. But we need more warning labels.
My point is… YES! How ABOUT we remove the guidelines and the warning labels and let nature take its course! It’s time to empty the gene pool and perhaps return some functional adults to the room. Let me conclude that, it speaks volumes about our society when a major media outlet feels that “Forehead Sticker Girl” represents the best of humanity in the moment of crisis, but then again, considering the current state our country is in, she probably is about the best of the best.
Darwin, we hardly new ye.

It was probably some all-in-one device that does all of those functions. Stickerhead is just lucky that it didn't catch fire while she was using it for the last function on the list.
I don't think the number of idiots is actually increasing. It's just that the internet and social media are making them more visible. That and the fact that they now dominate the business world and, to a lesser extent, politics. But natural selection is still doing its job. Even if the guy in the firework video survived, he's unlikely to be able to transmit his genes to the next generation.
That CPSC ad is clever. It even has the correct geological period for a T-rex (Cretaceous, not Jurassic). The person who made it is more qualified to be in the cabinet than most of the bozos who are actually there.
I concur with your point, Infidel. It's the evolution of the old new adage, "If it bleeds, it leads". Idiots make for good videos! We watch the (recorded) news before turning in, and have no tolerance to stupid people doing stupid shit and getting in trouble for it. "Fast-forward, fast-forward, fast-forward, fast-forward... Oh LOOK! No more news! Good night!"
