Charlie Kirk

As I wait for my coffee to brew, I am scanning assorted blogs for the issues and discussions of the prior evening.  SeriouslyOMG is one of the blogs that I routinely scan.  This morning, there was a posting regarding the assassination of the rabid, right-wing pundit, Charlie Kirk.

From SeriouslyOMG

"Tonight, I am at a loss for words because words were used to murder someone.

I did not agree with anything that Charlie Kirk said. I believe he spewed hate and division. However, I do not believe he deserved to die because of it.

There is too much hate in this world, and this is what comes of that.

So tomorrow, let’s wake up and be better. Use our words for love and not hate.

If we did that, the world would be a better place. Let’s try. What can it hurt? Maybe we can heal. And we need healing; we have needed it for a long time. So let the healing begin."

I agree with the sentiment that we need to be better; to use our words for love and not hate.  But the reality is this; we had a Presidential ticket with candidates who ran on joy.  On love.  On compassion.  On empathy.

You remember these two?

But our country made the decision to embrace the toxic brain and words of Donald John Trump.  To embrace hatred, open racism, antisemitism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, nationalism.  To look at anything other than those views; of kindness, compassion, empathy... understanding... as a weakness to be exploited.

Did Charlie Kirk get what he deserved?  Idunno?  He notoriously opined, over and over, that anyone who opposed Trump and the GOP should be found guilty of treason, taken out and shot. He actively promoted the violence.  Did he reap what oats he had sowed?   No one deserves to be assassinated, but if Donald Trump taught his followers anything, it's that words have no consequences.

I am in no hurry to have a "Kim-bay-ya" moment.  I am going to take a "Wait and see" approach.  I want Trump... the GOP... MAGA... to be the first to say, to admit - "We own this; and we need to make things better" and make that first attempt before I lower my shields.

I'm tired of being kicked for caring.

I agree to a point. And your words of our country made the decision to embrace the toxic brain and words of Donald John Trump. To embrace hatred, open racism, antisemitism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, nationalism...is so true, and why this is only going to get worst.

It reminds me of the old African proverb. "The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth"

The way I see it the party of Rot brought this on themselves and should brace themselves.

Did he deserve to be killed? No. No one deserves that. Was he a hateful individual? He was. He not only embraced violence, but he promoted it. His belief was that we should accept gun deaths every year, so how ironic that he should die of a gunshot. The co-founder of his "party" was very verbal about Covid was not dangerous and the vaccine was a hoax. So, how ironic he died of Covid. Both could be a matter of they reaped what they sowed.

...and not pin the blame on someone else. I listened to Trump now trying to blame the Charlottesville incident on the Democrats. I'm just so over the bullshit.

Kirk was vile, loathsome, hateful, and dangerous. No, I don’t approve of cold-blooded murder but I can’t find one ounce of sympathy for the people who loved him. How can anyone love someone like that. But now Drumpf and the GOP will use this to stir up more hate and more violence.
