Decompressed.

Spent a stunningly beautiful weekend in Truro, MA. Truro is the town just before you get to Provincetown on Cape Cod. My husband and I visited dear friends of ours who have been staying out in that part of the world for DECADES. We got introduced to Truro over twenty years ago, and it has been an (almost) annual pilgrimage for us ever since.

Cape Cod Bay.

No Cape weekend would be complete without the requisite platter of steamers, lobster, corn and a couple bottles of char char. Something about the water and the air – the food just tastes so much better. Perhaps is having it on the beach?

Steemahs...

Lobstah...

Unfortunately, the winds were quite prominent, so the requisite bonfire was nixed as sunset approached.

The P-town monument is that little pin sticking up on the far shore.

Truro is wonderful; VERY quiet yet with easy access to the Cape beaches and Provincetown. We did the obligatory visit to Commercial Street, but the crowds were INSANE, and there was some kind of race going on and the street was more pack than for normal August “High Season”. The view from inside the truck was enough for this outing. We'll go back in late Autumn; off-season.

Though while in Truro, we did get to see some incredible athletics - a kite surfer enjoying the wind and the waves!

The trip was a last minute excursion this year. Open reservations were non-existent, especially for just an over-nighter; most hotels and resorts have a two-night minimum. I found a room at the Dune Crest Hotel; it is perched high on the last hill on Rt. 6 before you go down to the flats and into Provincetown. Years ago, it was known as “The Outer Reaches Resort”, but the owners (same family for 60 years!) made some incredible investments to upgrade the rooms. Our room was bright and spacious. Nice amenities, great shower and very comfortable bed. Wonderful staff!  The best was the SPECTACULAR vista view of the bay! Enjoyed my morning coffee on the deck off the room before we started our drive home.

Morning Bliss.

I've been humming this song ever since we crossed the Borne Bridge coming home...

Every time I traveled to the cape, countless times, that song would play in my head. Not only a great song, but it perfectly captures the mood of Cape Cod. And I’m now craving steamahs and lobstah!

It was! Both of us were just totally relaxed when we got home. Both of us had a great, deep restful night of sleep.

We have done P-Town to death. Been there, like, multiple times a year since well before I even came out ('89). We don't do bars or nightclubs any more - we just aged out of them. By the time most places get moving, we're looking to turn in and go to sleep. LOVE to just stroll Commercial Street, but the crowds were waaaaay too thick for our comfort. That and it was, like, 90 with 80% humidity. Watching from the comfort of the ride, in AC was more than enough.

It's always just wonderful visit out there.

I have lived all along the East Coast from here to NYC the Ormond Beach, FL, and did a stint in St. Pete. I have come to realize that the North Atlantic is in my blood. When you get that... ocean aroma... wafting through the pine thickets... and in the Autumn, add the scent of a wood fireplace somewhere... it just feels like home.
